Mike-Here is why it looks like you have to take the mast down to put an
additional light on the masthead.

All the wiring in the mast has connections at the base so you can disconnect
the wires when taking the mast down. Also, the mast wiring runs through a
short pipe on the mast step which leads to the compression post, the bilge
and then to the appropriate device or switch. The pipe generally is sealed
with marine sealant to keep things dry below which would making any attempt
at fishing a line through the sealant very difficult with
the mast up. The mast has two PVC tubes near its front through which the
wires are lead to the top to keep
them from slapping around. They are not lined up with the pipe in the mast
step.

I see no way to fish lines to the masthead without removing the mast. The
messenger line in the bilge would help you pull a wire from the bilge after
removing some of the sealant and with the mast down. Cutting an opening at
the base of the mast big enough to work there might work but may cause
structural problems at the bottom of the mast in addition to being a rather
crude solution.

I bought my boat in Alameda, August of 2010, and brought it down to San
Diego, I could take it back up for the right price.

One thought for consideration. On my last Catalina I mounted rectangular
Bose speakers under the stern seats using a single SS screw to the socket in
the middle of the speaker wall. I left just enough slack in the wire to
rotate the speaker to aim to the rear when we were swimming or floating
behind the boat. That made for a nice swim.

If you are going to surface mount them, you might consider the Bose 131
Marine Speakers.
http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/speakers/outdoor_marine_spea
kers/index.jsp
They have a sealed rear sound volume that provides a tuned bass enclosure
and protects the back of the speaker. It probably would prevent taking on
water in a bad event.

Happy Sailing!

Does someone have advice/photos to provide guidance on installing marine
speakers under the transom seats? Attaching the speakers to the seats is
simple enough but I am interested in lessons learned on the speaker wire run
thru the stantions.

I also faced this problem but in the end remembered that my mast had a coax
cable for a television aerial installed which I never used. I used that for
one of the wires, using the existing anchor light wiring for the other.

And we're looking for a 320 that's anywhere north of California.
