[C320-list] Cracked Mast

This is the first crack that I have heard of being reported on a
C-320. You really need to get a competent rigger to check it out.

In order to determine whether to repair or replace, you first need to
determine what caused the crack...i.e. is it the result of metal
fatigue, corrosion, or caused by over stressing from high winds or due
to improperly adjusted rigging tension.

Small cracks in non loaded sections can sometimes be repaired by
welding. I know of instances of mast base corrosion in boats of other
manufacturers that were successfully repaired by cutting off a couple
of inches from the base of the mast and fabricating a collar in order
to retain the original mast height. Masts that have cracked have been
successfully repaired by cutting out the damaged section and joining
the parts with a reinforcing sleeve.

Because of the loads on a mast this size and the risks associated with
an inadequate repair, these repairs are not recommended as DIY
projects.

You may be aware (at least on my boat) the the entire sheave assy will slip out of the boom if there are no lines on it. My sheave assy goes too far into the boom and the sheaves bind on it. Haven't come up with a fix yet, something to keep the sheave axle from sliding too far into the end of the boom??
