[C320-list] Mailing List or Forum

Jeff, at the risk of repeating myself-----this 320 association (which I am a  charter member) has been especially helpful at the time folk needed help---It has impressed me that many times an answer to a question is provided within an hour of the question.  We have grown since my hull (#219)  was built in the mid 90's and many questions posed now do not apply to the 'vintage' boats--but the new owners of vintage boats will have questions that need attention.  Thanks to all who have gone before and continue to support the association.
I only hope that my 'YELLOW THONG ed" friend is still enjoying his life aboard his current sailing vessel-- Orlando, give Linda our love.  Ken & Jane

Not to beat this point to death, my concern about forums are simply these:

1) There is really a limited number of people who can be of genuine use to
our list.  They are C320 owners or former owners, factory people, etc.  Ie:
maybe someone with a CC-35 might have had a trick that works great on his
boat, but I'm a little more interested in what has been tried and works on
our boats.  With a community that is broad like RV, etc. you have a huge
pool of members to draw on, but that list grows smaller if you're interested
in solutions to your particular type of RV.

2) Forums I subscribe to (and there are many) are decent places to go see if
someone has posted an answer to a question you have.  But I rarely bother to
reply/answer questions on them because I don't check them frequently enough
and many of the questions are days or months old.  I figure they are already
long past needing the answer by now.  Browse any forum and you'll see LOTS
of unanswered posts unless you have a team of people who are dedicated "do
the responding".  But I really prefer the answer from the guy/gal who knows
the answer first hand, not some moderator who can guess.

As I've mentioned before, there are relatively few questions that ever slip
through our list totally unanswered, and most are answered quickly (like
while you're still working on the project).  To me, that has most of the
value.

Since we're starting the (long) process of selling/upgrading our boat to
possibly a C355, I want to try to do whatever the association needs doing
while I'm still "here".  :)  Rumor has it officers can only resign their
post by changing boats?

Seriously though, I think we have a real opportunity to find a way to
capture and store Q&A information from the 10+ years of list discussions we
have stored.  Sounds like a good searchable FAQ system would be worthwhile.
Sounds like too much work for one already busy guy however.

Cheers!
-Jeff

I prefer the forum method.  I'm on forums for my boat (three of them),  RV
(four of them), RV engine, and probably one or two I've forgotten.  They are
there for you to check or ignore, without cluttering your email "In"  box.
Plus all the forums are divided into specific areas/or specific
vehicles/boats.  So I can check or look at exactly what I want to  see.
Yes, you have to register and log on...it gives you a bit of privacy,  but
is certainly no big deal.
