When you raise the main, before letting up on the halyard, press down the cam in the clutch manually. This will prevent the line from creeping back when you release the halyard from the winch, & prevent wear on it.

Not sure if the Garhauer clutch is adjustable, but it's questionable that
ou'd want to adjust it anyway. It needs to hold the main halyard tightly.
ou can call Garhauer at (909) 985-7513 and ask.
You may want to upgrade to something with a little less stretch for the main
alyard anyway. When the halyard stretches, the luff gets looser and the
raft moves aft, creating more healing force at the expense of driving
orce. Same with the genoa halyard. Draft goes aft, boat is pulled a little
ore sideways instead of forward. A good low stretch halyard is well worth
onsidering. Vectran core is best, followed by Dyneema. Check the breaking
trength of the 3/8" Sta-set (4400 pounds?) and see if you can get a 5/16"
ine with at least as great a breaking strength. I use 10mm Spect-set2 for
y main halyard (about 3/8" and way overkill), but 5/16" Technora for both
ib halyards. I don't think either of these lines is on the market anymore,
ut there are other better choices now. No discernible wear on either or
lutch slip in any of them after five or six years, maybe longer. And no
iscernible stretch.
Hope that's helpful...

ubject: [C320-list] Main Halyard wear
I replaced my Main halyard 3 years ago with 3/8" Sta-set. It is very worn in
he area where it is in the clutch when raised. It's to the point where it
ooks like it could break at any time. Is this a normal rate of wear? I'm
oing to replace it, any suggestions? Also, can the clutches be adjusted?
Thanks,
ike P
