I don't have the answers; but, if you call Garhauer they will know.  They are very service oriented and helpful.  Nice people.  No nickel and dime outfit.

I found that 3 of the teeth on clutch are damaged so I assume that is the cause of the excessive wear. I can't figure out how they were damaged though. Can anyone confirm that the correct clutch is the Garhauer 11-11a? Also, does this simply screw in or is there more to removal and installation?

This should prevent the kind of abuse you are seeing.  Running rigging should be sized liberally enough to that a foot every few years shouldn't matter.
