Karl,
Please keep in mind that it was 2 sails not one and my jib is a 150%. When I first received the estimate I was not happy, but am extremely happy with the results.

I suspect that the difference in what the two were providing for the
price was "remarkable" also.

Sailcare uses the LaMauney process. Sails are measured, inspected for
needed repairs, and the cloth checked for deterioration from the sun.
Then the sails are carefully cleaned followed by the re-resining
process of impregnating the cloth with resins and setting these resins
with controlled heat. In addition, a fungicidal agent is added to
inhibit mildew growth, another is added for water repellency, and a
third agent provides ultraviolet protection.
This is far more than the "cleaning" done by many lofts.

I had my main done in December 2007. Base price was $234 or $.95 per
sqft (same as what is quoted on the website today). Extra repairs and
shipping brought the total to $430, before my "off-season" discount.
For example, the insignia's and numbers need to be sewn as the process
will loosen them. Others have complained about excessive shrinkage. I
measured it to be around 1%. IMHO, after 4 seasons, the sail is still
better than the condition it was in when I first sent it in.

A lot of repairs must have been made to spend $1000.
