You don't mention the age, but when self priming pumps quit doing so, I'd
suspect the impeller is wearing out or has something (handi-wipe, baby
wipe, etc.) stuck around it. Regarding such 'wipes', a guest flushed one
once and I found out when suddenly the pump would run but not move
effluent. $140 and three hours later, I had replaced it. Now there's an
empty baby wipe container in the head with "Baby wipes; $140 each"
inscribed on it.
