Nat,
When I bought September Song this year, all the fluid was gone from her
compass. I took it out and went to a place here in Annapolis, MD called
J. Gordon who fixed it for about $200. They also reconditioned the whole
thing including a new dome. Cheaper than buying a new one by far!
Looks like Baker Marine in San Diego should be able to fix yours:

It's been ok for the last 2 yrs. Today after coming back from a relaxing
afternoon sail out of San Diego bay as I put the cover on the binnacle and
wheel, I noticed that the compass card was askew and all the fluid had
disappeared! No guess as how that could have happened. Are we budgeting for
a new compass? Anyone have a similar experience? Thanks, Nat
