[C320-list] iPad navigation software recommendations

We have used iSailor with the iPad3 for a month now. We have reservations.
We don't know if it's the nav program or the GPS capability of the iPad
itself. On one occasion, our boat location on the screen was 600 yards east
of our actual location (we were approaching land so the discrepancy was
pretty obvious; I checked exact location against paper charts to verify to
amount of error). In talking with some other iPad users, we were informed
that on that particular day, Aug. 17th, 2012, the gov't was recalibrating
satellites. Is this possible? Googling iPad GPS errors, I found other
complaints but only from people using the iPad for car navigation.

We also find that it is important to re-center frequently (hit the
on-screen button that puts the boat in the middle of the screen) or the
projected track is off sometimes crossing land. This is particularly true
if you put the iPad in sleep mode to save batteries and then wake it up.
 Bottom line: have a back-up!

John: how did you run a 12 volt line to yours? Did you use an existing
line and circuit/switch on the panel or do a direct connect to your
batteries? I want to hook up my old Garmin GPS as back-up.

thanks,

gene
