These little keys and my big fingers obviously make some interesting spelling errors!

Don,
It sounds like you re disconnecting both the posotive and negative leads, just discomnect the positive lead when you make your checks. On our boat the #1 battery is aft. Also a portable voltmeter would be even quicker.  We replaced our #1 battery last year just a few weeks after biying our boat, #2 looked much newer and tested much stronger so we only replaced the one. Also shop around, I found a battery distributor I an industrial park that sold Dekka 4D batteries for just over $200, its the same exacr battery as WM's Sea Volt (same assembly line different sticker), I believe WM wanted $375.

Good Luck

Don,
Conventional wisdom is you should replace both batteries at the same time, preferably from the same manufacturing run.

I have been trying to figure out which of the two batteries is #1, the forward, or the aft battery.  I tried disconnecting each battery individually, to determine which wasn't providing power by using the battery selection switch on the electrical panel. I guess both batteries are on the same power bus because, no matter which one I disconnected, it shut down ALL power no matter which battery position was selected. Anyone know which battery (No. 1 or 2)is the forward battery in the earlier boats (hull 53/1994), and how you  make that determination? Thanks much.
