The big thing is that it must be pushed STRAIGHT down. That means the 
downward pressure on the table surface needs to be directly above the 
post. If you push even a few inches off center of the post, it will cant 
the table, resulting in the post not being straight. The post is not in 
the center of the table either. And of course make sure you loosen the 
locking knob first...   ;-)
