Ican confirm all of the information so far.
Mine was hard to turn and I read about the issue on this list or another. I called Schaefer and they were very informative. There was design issue that did not permit adequate flushing and resulting in the delrin bearings being damaged from the accumulated grit. They sent me a new unit with instructions and it was easy to install. It was a huge improvement and the comparison with the old being turned by hand was amazing. I now flush regularly. The price was low enough to suggest to me that it was sent at close to their cost.

If there are, I assume that one "washes out" the drum with a hose, although I can't imagine what would be in there to need flushing. The boat is a 2003 model if that helps determine the existence of washout holes.

>> Are there washout holes on the drum? There was an issue with the drums-they need to be washed out occasionally, and they didn't come with washout holes originally. Schaefer will replace the original drum (if it doesn't have the washout holes) at a big discount (I think they charge about $150 for the replacement).
