Where the halyard and the line meet you tape on a treble fishing hook with the shank  and points pointing down and flatten the barbs. Hoist the smaller line up with the spare halyard and bring it so the fish hook touches the wayward halyard. Pull down on the small line to "set" the hook into the wayward halyard and then pull down on the small line and both halyards will come down. Believe it or not it actually worked.
