[C320-list] Quieting cockpit vibrations

Warren, good response, on our 320 we installed a couple of speakers in the openings which allowed both music and ventilation.  We used louvered/screened coverings and both worked great.  Ken

Great discussion with so many good ideas.
Keep in mind that the refer compressor is in the aft port locker. Compressor
efficiency is partly a function of ambient temperature: the hotter is that
compartment, the more the compressor will run, the more juice will be taken
from your batteries.
Ideally, this compartment should have its own forced air ventilation. In
fact, there is such a kit can be found at Defender. We simply have a small
block of wood on light line that we use to hold open the cover when on the
boat. This also promotes air circulation through the aft cabin via the
escape hatch (we have a screen in the hatch that allow us to keep it open
when not on A/C.) For owners of newer hulls, we don't have a hatch opening
into the cockpit. Ours opens to the space around the rudder post.

I would think that that stuff would be too thick. I assume you applied it to
the lip of the opening rather than to the locker lid itself?

There are very few places where I have been disappointed with "fit and
finish" issues on my Catalina. But those cockpit lockers are one. For
example, on my boat the piano hinge on the large locker is not perfectly
straight, and dives into the joint a little bit at one end, which has
created issues in terms of fasteners working loose. Probably this is a
contributing factor to the vibration, but I haven't figured out how to fix
it. Would seem to require small assistants willing to work from inside the
closed locker.
