My boat has the padeye as well (anyone know what it's for?) but I was 
not happy with how far down the main could be pulled with my setup so I 
tied the line lower down. I had this issue because of the length of the 
short line and block hanging from the reef point. You can see the padeye

It's just not quite low enough for the way I've rigged it. That's why I 
moved it down and tied it to the base of the vang right next to the 
reefing block, which can be seen in this photo:
