Hey thanks..that makes sense - saw some C320 articles on this recently...it leaks (exchange box) water into the bilge so when I start up it is empty and then it comes through - I think that may be it. Exchange box clogged up 
Will check it out

Would verify both fuel filters are clear and check the exhaust/raw water mixer.  They have a nasty habit of clogging up with carbon and increasing the exhaust back pressure.  How is the volume of cooling water flow?
