[C320-list] Splashing this week.....

The element in Cold Galvanizing Compound is zinc. The stuff we buy at HD or
Lowes is 90some percent zinc in a spray can. It's about $7 at a box store
and $20 at a marine store.

A group at our marina (Middle River, mid-Bay,) did a comparative test a few
years ago. Clearly, those who used the cold galvanizing compound fared best
with no barnacles on the blades and only a few on the hub.

I think it's important to clean the prop well with an abrasive to remove
everything including the bronze tarnish. Then, wipe well with a mild acid
like vinegar to slightly etch the surface. Then apply the zinc in several
layers. It dries fast so it won't take long.

What is the metal in the Cold Galvanizing Compound. If it isn't bronze then
you are likely to be making a battery out of your prop. I would have
thought that you would end up with galvanic corrosion or at the very least
making your zincs go away quicker.

Brad,

So it's a year later since you made this post. How did the Cold
Galvanizing Compound work on the prop. I down the bay a ways from you and
I'm interested to know.

Thanks,
Jason
