They definitely are a mild abrasive. Sorta like very fine rubbing compound on a sponge

I was curious as to what makes the magic sponges so effective. Seems they
have a micro-abrasive, so be careful using them on anything with a gloss
like new gel coat. They may remove the shine. Just a suspicion.

Down cleaning up the boat today. If you have not tried them "Mr Clean Magic
Eraser" works great on the lifelines
