[C320-list] Engine and transmission oil levels

For the Engine Oil dipstick, the ideal level is exactly at the Full mark and
not above and not below. So, FYI: Diesels typically have 3 methods of
lubrication:

1) Oil pressurization which forces oil into hard to reach places
2) Drip/drain back lubrication where the pressurized oil drips back to the
pan over the parts that need lubricating
3) Splash lubrication where the crank shaft dips into the oil pan and
splashes oil around the lower cylinder walls and other lower engine parts.
(Really important!)

It's #3 that suffers if your oil level isn't at the full mark. If it is
over filled, then there's a chance that the oil could find its way into the
cylinders and you'd find yourself on the bad end of a runaway diesel. Then,
it can only be shut down by releasing the compression levers on the top and
blocking the engine intake with a board.

Subject: [C320-list] Engine and transmission oil levels

I have searched the site and been able to answer some of my questions. I
would welcome clarification of the following (Yanmar 3GM30):
Engine oil dipstick between the high and low marks is that one quart?
Transmission dip stick only has one mark about 1/4" up from the bottom
of the rod.
I assume that is the desired oil level mark with the dip-stick
unscrewed and sitting on the top of it's
          threads.
Thanks,

According to my information sheet , standard fixed props are 15x9 three
blade or 15 x 10 two blade, so a 14 should fit.
But beware that if the diameter is too small then the engine will be
screaming and you won`t be going anywhere.

Hope you have a SS shaft as the original brass could bend on weight of the
maritech.

Anyone know the clearance dimension on the prop? Looking at buying a used
Martec and they have 12" and 14", not sure if the 14" will fit. Any other
advice is appreciated.
