[C320-list] C320: Rudder stock head loose

I wonder if some McLube Sailkote would help here. It's a pretty good dry
lube for Delrin and other similar situations, so it won't build up or
attract dirt. Might be a good way to protect against further damage.

Might even try it myself...

I believe I am currently trying to deal with the same issue. I think there
are three steps that can be taken to address this problem.

1. Replace the delrin washer under the rudder stock cap. They are
available from Catalina Direct. I did this however it did not solve the
problem at least completely. I think it made an improvement. I need more
trips out to be sure.

2. I have repacked the packing gland where the stock enters the top of the
rudder tube. I have not been sailing since this step.

3. I purchased some .003" and .005" mylar film from an art supply house
online. I am working on inserting a wrap around the rudder stock under the
inspection cap to fill in the area that is worn away from years of use. I
have not had complete success getting the mylar wrapped completely around
the entire circumference of the stock because it is pressing against the
forward part of the fiberglass tube that is under the inspection plate. I
need to work on that some more this weekend. I found this repair
information online from Gerry Douglas. Here is the link:

I am trying to put one single piece of mylar around the entire post because
when I put individual strips as Gerry describes they tend to move over each
other as the rudder is turned.

I was out this past week in some heavy weather and I'm getting a
squeaking/scraping noise from the rudder stock where the emergency tiller
fits. I can feel a vibration in my feet along with the noise. This occurs
when steering with the rudder under pressure. Anyone experienced
this...squirted some type of lube into this area?ThanksJohnM1999#574

summer or fall 2012 issue of Mainsheet. There was a recall reported on the
front mounts. It also addressed proper shaft alignment which can be
complicated if the coupling faces are not at perfect right angles to the
shaft. Either issue can make alignment difficult or impossible.
