Hi Ted, the following is for the Yanmar 3YM30. I remember that on our previous Catalina 32 which was Hull 812 the engine was a Yanmar 3GM. From your hull number my info below may not help but I'll post it anyway incase and incase it helps others.

Wayne Newman Marine tel 9524 5199 speak to Dave in spare parts

You need to know the serial number of your engine as there are two mixer elbows for the Yanmar 3YM30

The mixer elbow has a water inlet on top.

The earlier models had a 17.3 milimeter pipe.

The later models had a 22 milimeter pipe.

The larger pipes go with engine serial number E17725 onwards.

Hull number 1073 is an earlier model so uses the 17.3 mm one.

It takes 2 days to get one sent from Melbourne to Taren Point where Wayne Newman are located in Sydney

+ $14 to courier to within the Sydney area.

Dave from spare parts suggested you measure to check as previous mechanic might have changed the pipe.

Also need a gasket.

Cost of the early one $273.56 + GST

Cost of later one $316.34 + GST

Cost of gasket $16.12 + GST

I checked my engine manual log this morning before heading out on the harbour to see the exact hours at which the exhaust mixer elbow was replaced.
It was replaced in May 2010 at 789 hours. It was blocked again on 24 Sept 2013 at 1140 hours so only 351 hours. I guess I see that as a lesson to check earlier than I had thought. I though I was safe for around 700 hours but I was wrong.

Thank you so much to the C320 list for your help and suggestions. It's always much appreciated. It was a beautiful day out on Sydney Harbour today and a big relief to have the engine working perfectly again. The "same day" courier delivery didn't actually turn up so hopefully will turn up tomorrow. I'm going to get it replaced at the next service. The mechanic said if it was his boat he might not replace it yet but would economise by just digging out the carbon again next time there's a problem but my skills aren't up to the task of taking the exhaust apart and a mechanic might not be available at a moment's notice so I need to over service rather than economise.
