I found that method to be less practical than advertised. I purchased a
Buck Algonquin Flange Puller
http://catalog.buckalgonquin.com/item/flange-puller-2/flange-pullers-coupler-removal-tool/50mcp00500?

on the internet for about $30 and it was absolutely worth it. If I never
use it again that's OK.
