Barb and Bob - The C320 Association has a toolbox loaner program. You pay
the outbound shipping and return costs and that's it. The boat really
should be out of the water (I would not want our tools used underwater...).
I have heard of folks who can do it while the boat is in the water but don't
know what tools they use. 2 people, carefully following the instructions,
can get the job done easily within an hour. The reason I say 2 people is
that it is best to push the bearing out with 2 folks sync'd on the wrenches
although I know several folks who have done it without help. It really is
not a big deal. The tool is on its way to NY right now so if you are going
to need it soon, suggest getting on the Wait List. The NY person would ship
directly to you when he is finished and you'd pay him 1/2 of his shipping
cost which would save both of you $$$. The order form for the tool is out
on the website. And the prop needs to be pulled and the tool to do that
also comes with the cutlass tool. Also, if you'd like, I can send you the
instruction manual to help you better decide if this is something you want
to attempt. Send me an e-mail offline - allan.field at verizon.net - and I
will send the manual and supporting material.

Subject: [C320-list] cutlass bearing replacement

Hey, friends,

We have been told we have a worn cutlass bearing and need to replace it.  We
have checked with Catalina and found that it is the "Blackfish" cutlass
bearing and have purchased it.  Question - does the boat have to be pulled
to replace it or can it be replaced in the water. What are your thoughts?
 Thanks.
