Kenny:
Kiwi three blade prop (a feathering variety) has worked for me for 6 seasons
as a replacement for a fixed three blade. Reduced prop walk, quicker
stopping and improved reverse power, and fast sailing speed recovery
following a tack. It was also the least expensive and lightest weight of the
options considered.
It is NOT maintenance-free, and requires yearly greasing on each blade and
two hub points. After my first winter this became a fall winterization
activity as freezing temperatures over that one deformed the o-ring at the
base of two of the blades. You can watch the greasing process displace water
that has found its way into the prop over the sailing season.
