just hoping that, welllll, maybe I could get away with it this year.

My two cents, the answer would be yes.  The properties of oil decrease with
age and there for should be changed over time.  You either change your car
oil when you travel so many miles or with a certain amount of time.  Put
fresh oil inside the engine to coat the cyclindar walls for the winter.
Changing oil is much less expensive than having engine issues.
