[C320-list] muffler box

I lurk on several Catalina lists & have seen that the 320 has many more muffler failures than any other size boat, & maybe even all the sizes added together.

I have had failures at the holes, bottom seam and had the inlet pipe
crack. Failure at the holes may have been self induced as I drilled out
the holes to a larger diameter to accommodate larger screws because the
screw holes in the liner below the muffler had become stripped. When I
installed the new muffler a month ago I glassed in these holes in the
liner and redrilled them to the proper size.

The hump hose is a great idea because it will put less stress on both the
inlet pipe and the mounting hose not to mention the installer! I didn¹t
have one when I put the muffler back in but plan on ordering one for
future use in the event I ever remove the muffler or hose again.

When I ordered the latest muffler from Catalina direct Kent told me that
these mufflers had to be ground down a little at the bottom flange joint
on some boats to make them fit which will reduce the strength of that
joint. He worked with me closely to make sure the new muffler had a
minimal amount of grinding. He also told me that the Florida plant uses
better materials then were used at the now closed California plant. We
will see but all of my failures were from the California plant.
