Note that my table (2007) came with a warning tag on the sliding part of the
support strut that said "WARNING: DO NOT LUBRICATE"

Since it seems yours hasn't been removed in some time you may try this: use
a rubber mallet and tap upwards around the plate under the table between the
screws and the vertical part. Do it evenly all around. This should loosen
it. Once off, clean the mating faces and lightly grease with a dry lube or
something like Super Lube. If this doesn't work, unscrew the table from the
floor, invert and apply a penetrating oil around where the round plate under
the table fits over the vertical shaft. Then encourage it with the rubber
mallet.
When encouraging our top off, I use the heal of both hand and rap the plate
sharply and simultaneously. It usually comes up easily then.
As far as the supporting shaft is concerned, inside the shaft is a sealed
gas compression tube. To compress the tube you need a fair amount of
pressure on the top of the table immediately over the center of the support.
Sometimes, I have to use a quick, sharp press to start the compression.
Under any of these situations, too much pressure off-center can cause loose
screws and/or damage to the table.

Does anyone know how to remove the saloon table top without removing the
screws that mount it to the pedestal. The pedestal has 2 spring loaded
sections and there seems to be no way of separating the 2 sections.
