Allan, I just checked out the tool loaner program - nice! I checked the
Canadian Duty import and you are right about the cost. I see there is a
Australian tool program as well.

How could we set one up for an Canadian depo? Can the same insurance program
be used?

Ted - The bearing is a "BACK." The shaft and rudder do NOT need to be
removed. The prop does need to be removed. The Association's cutlass
bearing removal tool and prop puller are available to Association members
for loan. You pay the shipping cost each way and that's it. I see that you
are a member but... We have discovered the hard way that shipping the tools
to Canada is very expensive as there are customs fees. I recommend that you
find a place on the USA side of the border for inbound shipping if you want
to borrow the tools. The job is very easy with most getting it done in less
than an hour and even less with a helper. I am unsure where you'd find the
replacement set screws but would think that any prop-shop should be able to
provide them. If you do decide to borrow the tools, go to the Association
website and complete the form. I can usually ship within 24-48 hours of
receipt of the form (assuming I am not on travel).

The cutlass bearing is working its way out of the strut. I have several
questions.

Boat is 1997 hull number 424

1. It is worn so I was thinking of replacing it. Anyone knew the part
number?

2. The shaft is one inch brass. It looks like I have to drop the rudder to
get the shalt out. Is this correct ?

3. I saw a tool to take the bearing out without removing the shaft. Has
anyone taken this approach?

4. One gentleman from the club said the shaft may need to be replaced. Why
would he make such a statement ?

5. The set screws (2) are missing and that is why the bearing is exiting the
strut. Any idea what are the sizes?
