[C320-list] Transmission Fluid

No, Jeff!
I assume you have a Perkins M30. Have you been changing the oil through the
dip stick? There is an easier and better way. The tube you found with the
square plug is a direct tube to the oil sump and the easiest way to remove
the old oil. I have a manual pump from WM with a long plastic tube. I added
a hose barb with the same threads as the square plug. Remove the plug, screw
in the hose barb and pump. I typically get about 3 1/2 Qts out.

The transmission is a Hurth HBW-50 and there is a shop manual on the 320 web
site. I also have a couple of other documents related to operation. To drain
the fluid, I use the same pump for changing oil, and I do it through the
dipstick hole. Just make sure you get the hose all the way to the bottom.
I'm told that there should be a drain plug under the transmission below the
dip stick. I've never used this as I'm too old to bend enough to manipulate
the plug. It only takes 10 oz. of ATF (Dexron) to fill it. Fill to the line
on the dipstick and not more. Overfilling is as bad as under filling. Check
monthly. Change at end of season.

I'm sending you the additional info on the Hurth.

I can see what I think is the spot for the transmission oil, it's directly
below the dipstick for the engine oil and very close to the oil filter. Is
this the correct spot, it has a square bolt on it? I've got a picture I can
email if someone can give me their email to confirm.

We've done the engine oil easily and wondering if the transmission oil is a
similar process. Also, where do you suck it out from. Thanks.
