I too had only one ignition key when I bought my boat 3 years ago. The local 
Ace Hardware store found a replacement key and made me two more for a few 
dollars.

Thanks, Myron. I am now befuddled as to why the major locksmith in my area
was so clueless about a diesel engine key. Maybe I should have also talked
to an engine mechanic about this replacement switch rather than the
electronics techs here at the marina. Live and learn.

I found a replacement switch with posts for four wires that looks very
similar to our original at the local auto store. Cost was about $10. It is
been working fine now for several years, but I do carry a spare in case a
problem develops. I don't know how it would do in a saltwater environment,
but it is not been a problem for me in the Great Lakes. Good luck.
