One more thing on this topic for your consideration. Not Catalina-specific, but an interesting read anyway:

And for the record, take the boards home and do it. Much easier to do a thorough job when you can properly re-seal all the edges too. Keeping future moisture out of the boards will make your refinish job last longer before you need to do it again.
