I am also interested in redoing sole so thanks for insights. In my case previous owner spilled some bleach on the sole and I have to find a matching stain. Do you know what stain to use? Thanks

I should also mention that I had an error in my email where I stated that there wasn't anywhere where the finish wasn't worn through. I meant to say that there was no place that was worn through. It is much easier to refinish when the original finish is intact.

I used the material that I think was originally used and that was "TARGET WB2025 Interior Matte Waterborne Urethane Wood Finish". I don't know whether this is still available or a replacement made for it, but I think I have enough left from the quart to do it again. I removed my floor and took it home over winter. I used a very fine sand paper to slightly abrade/scuff it and then I applied the finish with a relatively expensive brush which I think made the job come out especially nice. The brush was maybe 3-4" wide but very thin like maybe 1/4" or less. I put two coats on it and the results were very good.
