[C320-list] New Project

Hi,

To refinish the teak edges, my suggestion is to buy a small can of the target coatings sealer that the factory used. You can get it from Catalina Direct or from Target Coatings. It is water based, goes on so easy and dries fast enough to easily put down 3 or coats in a day.

But first, tape off the counter top. I used packing tape. Took a strip and folded over about 1/4" of one side of the long edge so it would be easy to remove.

Use one of those triangle detail sanders and sand off the old finish. It'll go fast this way. Careful, teak is soft wood. Use sanding block with 220 to finish off. That'll be quick.

Remove the dust, wipe down with denatured alcohol. Pour a little of the sealer in a plastic cup and then Apply the target product with a quality brush. Don't paint directly from the can if you can help it.

It'll be dry in an hour or so. Lightly sand with 400 or 600 grit to smooth it and apply another coat. Use very light coats and put on several. You will be amazed how easy this really is and may start doing all sorts of other things on the boat, like the hand rails, other areas around the companionway that are starting to get rough from the sun. This is by far the easiest sealer I've ever used. Literally takes less than 5 min to cleanup after and finishes beautifully. Just be sure to paint with the grain and you'll see no brush marks because of how it flows out. Remember several thin coats. No heavy coats and it'll look like a cabinet shop did the work.

Good luck!
