Thanks in advance Jeff. I just got back from the boat. Three of the four
screws are tight and I gave them an additional 1/8 turn. The fourth screw is
loose and does not tighten. I think it is stripped ?

I'll post a series of pictures in the C320 Photo Technical Photos gallery
showing the details, the disassembly and parts of the thru-hull valves next
time I get to the boat.

I have a spare Forespar thru-hull assembly that I can break down. This
should clear up all the magic surrounding our thru-hull fittings and make a
good reference.

Cheers!

Thanks Jeff, I will tighten the four screws and see if this helps. I removed
the water strainer, with great fear. Cleaned the filter and no leaks.

When I first purchased the boat the seacock was real hard to open and close.
I purchased special grease ($$$) from the marine supply store. I have
applied this every haul out for the last three years. It turns nice an easy
now. I think I will skip this maintenance practice next year.

Ted,

Does the seacock handle turn so easily that it could possibly close on its
own? That's really unusual for these valves. Usually it's the opposite
problem.

Anyway, if you look at the top of the seacock, you'll see 4 stainless steel
Philips head machine screws. You can try snugging these up a little. Not
Sampson strength tightening, just good and snug. Tightening/loosening
slightly changes the pressure on the ball in the valve and may solve the
problem.

The white ring on the side of the handle hides a screw that holds the handle
on. The white ring is actually a plug for the outside of the thru-hull. It
has a loop on it for tying a string to. You can safely just pull this white
plug out of the handle, as it is only held in place by friction of little
O-ring.

Do not under any circumstances remove the screw in the handle itself while
the boat is in the water!!! Doing so, will probably blow the screw and
various washers half way across the boat and you'll be hard pressed to get
them back in with water coming into the boat. So, don't remove the handle!!
But it is ok to tighten/adjust the screws on the top of the thru-hull body a
little.

If the handle is really loose, I suspect that it isn't sealing that well and
would leak if the hose, raw water filter or impeller cover were removed.

I would see if you can check this before removing the impeller cover.

I went out for sail and engine overheated. I checked and the seacock was ¾
closed. So I opened it and all good. So I thought, when did I close it! Went
out yesterday and the same thing happened and it was closed. This time I
knew I did not close it. Only this time it does not pump water so I think I
may have killed the impeller.

So what cause the seacock to close. How do you tighten it so does not close
on its own? There are four screws and a white ring on the side. The ring
just turns and does not appear to do anything. Any suggestions.

The second question does anyone have the instructions to change the
impeller. Is it just a matter of taking the four bolts out? If pieces of the
impeller are in the water heat exchanger what is the best way to get them
out?

Thanks
