I do not know what the pump housing material is off hand, but one might apply a magnet to it to determine if it is magnetic.  If not then one might scrape back some paint and observe the colour of the material.  bronze is yellow/gold and aluminum is silverish.  If Magnetic then Iron alloy.  

After a thorough cleaning, best done by bead blasting, one might attempt having the hole fixed.

If the housing is bronze one might braze repair the hole or silver braze (solder) it.  If Aluminium it could be welded up.  If cast iron then brazing.  One might also try an epoxy repair with the likes of JB Weld. 

Of course for the brazing and welding you need the equipment, supplies and know how.

Then when you do get a new pump,  this patched one becomes a good back up.

I don't know the composition of the metal. The leak is in the impeller housing inlet hose pipe I called the bib. It appears as a pinhole with rust around it (and salt) and drips water which then flows down the impeller outlet hose at the bottom and drips on the floor. Not a great flow but adds up with time running the engine and flows over the galley floor.
