[C320-list] heater problems

Not remembering much about AC circuits but could I put my multimeter across the terminals of the circuit breaker and measure current (carefully) that way???

Any idea what current i should expect for normal or not???

Dave

Circuit breaker keeps blowing on fresh water heater.
After 4 hours trying to free old heating element , I finally removed it and replaced it with new one. Unfortunately, breaker continues to blow after heater starts after about 15 seconds.

Any ideas how to approach? Thermostat?
Thanks, Dave

Either the circuit is drawing too much current or the circuit breaker is defective. Suggest clamping an AC current meter around the wire out of the circuit breaker and compare the load with the heater running to the breaker rating. My guess is the breaker is tripping at less than rated load

The solar panel stows under the aft bunk when I am not using it and attaches to the top of our bimini with Tenax fasteners when we deploy it. I couldn't be happier. We now have 450Ah of batteries, a very fast and smart charger, and on a sunny day, our single 125W panel keeps up with our main refrigerator. We can stay away from a marina plug in for weeks now! I?ll post some pictures of our new charger, battery and solar panel setup in my owners photos directory on the C320IA website.

Does anybody have pics of how they built/replaced the 3 boards with doors?? I see some pics on the website?of final results but not how-to's.
Looks simple enough but I'm lazy and want to plagiarize and not re-invent the wheel.

All sounds good Dave. I have recently done a similar thing I terms of replacing the 4D's with GC batteries and adding solar panels except that I used a fixed panel on the davits.
I was wondering whether you added a digital battery monitoring system and if so what type. I have just added a Victron BMV 702 but have not got it to work properly yet.

Help! I know there are a number of posts and I read as many as I could find re the operable ports leaking. I have thoroughly cleaned the glass and cleaned the seals with Armoural.

I have re-caulked the exterior small horizontal seams in the frames.

I have removed the inner plastic frame covers and tightened all the mounting screws.

My port side remains leaking, mostly the aft port light.

The leaks seem to be right at the dog or bolt that holds the port light closed. The dog seems tight and secure and I cannot figure out even how to remove it and check it further.

Any insight is appreciated. It rained hard last night and I got easily a pint of water through this light, soaked the port settee, the locker cover etc.

Thanks - Jamie

I had the same problem and Jeff provided my answer.

Did you remove the gasket between the two half window frame. I pull this out
and sealed with 4200 and not a leak this year at all.

Jamie

Kinda new to the 320, so recognize this is a newbie opinion.

The old port design really was kinda... dumb. Putting that seam on the
sides of the frame really was asking for eventual trouble. Do you
actually know where the moisture is coming from? If it is the outer frame
I would reccomended at a minimum pulling the portlight, completely and
thoroughly cleaning the frame and then rebedding the portlight with Bed It
brand butyl tape. If you aren't sure you can mess around with replacing
orings and seals on the old port light, For my money and time, it was
easier to buy a new portlight for $200 and not have to hassle with trying
to rejuvenate an old poorly designed portlight. The new portlight design
puts the seam on the bottom of the window, and it looks so nice compared to
the old ones. I will replace the other three cabin top portlights this
fall once the boat is on the hard. Funny thing, if you multiply the number
of cabin top windows by $200 and add the butyl tape it comes out to about a
thousand dollars after tax...I guess the old saying is actually true.

Also, since the cabin top has balsa core, you really need to check and see
what is going in the cut out for the portlight, a pint of water coming
through seems like a lot to me.

Just my 0.02.

Don't know if this helps Scott, but on the 320 site under the Gallery section and technical photos there are pictures of companionway doors and some build info.
