But the ones that are easy to use are also susceptible to snags. I've
heard stories about stays coming loose when a sheet snagged on a cotter
ring and pulled it out, allowing the clevis pin to work free, and I've
seen this happen myself on less critical hardware such as a mainsheet
block. I will stick with cotter pins for anything holding up the rig. As
long as you only bend them just enough so they don't back out (say 10
degrees) which is all you really need, they are easy to remove with
pliers, and also to re-use.
