[C320-list] Sending NEMA 0183 Data from Garmin Charplotter to Raymarine Autopilot

On June 14th Joe Tamucci submitted a post with the following title, part of which is reproduced below.

I also recently purchased a Garmin chart plotter, a 54dv and have been thinking about how to get it talk to the Raymarine Authelm. Joe refers to his AH unit as an ST-5 control head. I have a 4000+ and was wondering whether this is the same thing?

Also, referring to the excerpt below I am struggling to understand what the “Raymarine computer” is? I am familiar with the control head, the wheel unit and the flux gate compass but not the “computer”. I would appreciate some help understanding this.

3). Although the ST-5 control head has a NEMA input, it cannot be used
to input position data. You must use the NEMA port on the Raymarine
computer. I assumed the control head NEMA 0183 input port would work,
and the Raymarine tech agreed with me. NO! You must go straight to
   the computer.

Thanks
