I have the same setup. Instead of PVC I have a stainless tube sewn into the canvas. The canvas guy put it up about as far as he could reach and marked the canvas at the backstays. He made some cutouts in the canvas and attached some line around the tube. The line holds it up the backstay. It is also flimsy and I do not sail with it up. Just for anchor or dock.
