[C320-list] Do you have to remove rudder to remove prop-shaft?

I had my PSS replaced with a new one as preventative maintenance and to do that they did not need to remove the rudder.
Incidentally I found that the new pss needed to have a vent tube fitted where the old one did not have one. No idea why but after finding that without the vent it was picking up air after about 2hr of motoring, then running very hot, I had the tube installed and all was well thereafter.

Given all the hassle and expense I have heard good things about gfo packing and conventional stuffing boxes and would be inclined this way in future....

If the shaft can be removed it would make sense to replace the cutless bearing at the same time would it not?
