I think that winter storage in cold climates may take a toll on impellers that can't be measured just by counting hours. When our boat was on Lake Ontario the blades would harden up over the winter and take a kind of hard set. I think the antifreeze stuff might also make a difference. Changed it every spring--not in the fall! Here in NC they seem to last longer. Maybe just my imagination however.
