[C320-list] Engine Temperature Sender location

Daryl,

That item screwed into the Bronze "T" in your google drive pictures is the temp sender as you suspected. As for the wire colors, it's important to note that Catalina does not use the Yanmar engine panel, so the temp sender and certain other wires that aren't part of the engine's attached wiring harness may have different colors. The one listed by Catalina Direct is correct, the Yanmar one won't read correctly with the Sierra gauges.

The Catalina 320 uses an engine panel from the company formerly known as Seaward (now Whale Water Systems). Whale discontinued this product line. The gauges are standard Teleflex (Sierra) gauges and the temp sender is NOT the Yanmar part that any Yanmar dealer would sell you if you gave them your serial number.

Graeme, I don't believe the picture you linked to correctly reflects a C320 configuration of Yanmar 3gm30f. It's a picture of the same kind of engine, but not plumbed quite the same. Pretty sure if you took a pic of your engine, you'd agree. The plumbing of the European and Japanese models of Yanmar 3gm30f engines are the same, they just use different raw water pumps and transmission ratios I believe.

Daryl

on this stock image (not my boat, but lloks just like mine) the temp sender is the bright green dot just above the engine water pump pulley wheel

It sits close to but on the engien side of the thermostat. The coolant is being circulated around the engine block but only when the thermostat opens will it go through the heat exchanger where it is cooled by the raw seawater that is pumped through the other part of teh exchanger and into the exhaust

Hope that helps?

Graeme

Here's a link to pictures on my Google drive <https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4Mdc10lhKTienl6djhsdkpNVzg>. I'm not confident this location would give me an accurate engine temperature.
