We don't have the luxury of overboard pumping from the reefer on
Luffin Life 1999#574, the reefer drains into the bilge. I thought most
2000 boats had a proper small fridge installed?
Cheers

Warren to clarify. On #765 year 2000, the reefer drains by hose to a
3 way valve, to a filter, to a pump, to overboard. With the 3 way
valve you chose to pump out the reefer sump or pump out the shower
sump.

So, here is a case where year and hull# may become important. On the
early hulls, the refer does drain into the bilge directly. I
understand that on newer models it's on a valve and drains into the
head overboard?? If not directly draining, melted ice could backup
into the fridge.
On our #62, when more than a weekend cruise, we put a 10lb block of
ice at the very bottom with a plastic container to Stbd of the ice.
Pattie puts ice cubes and frozen food for later in the freezer box.
Frozen food for more immediate use goes in the plastic container.
Then, a thin plastic sheet is placed on the port side of the freezer
box. This keeps the frozen food underneath frozen quite well until
we need it. After a week, the ice block is about half gone.

So, my Cold Machine quit providing "cold". The fan & compressor are
running, but no cold. Probably freon or temp gage, but not enough
time to have a tech check it out & we are taking the boat out for a
few days. I currently plan to temporarily use the refer as an ice
box for a couple of days. I know it has a drain & it seems like it
would work OK as an ice box for a brief period. Any experience out
there, or known issues with using it this way? Thanks much.
