At only 1100hrs! This is bizarre you should get at least 4000hr prior
to even thinking of an engine rebuild. In any event unless the engine
is in really poor shape, I'd have it tended to by a reputable diesel
engine shop.
cheers

I only have 1100 hrs. on the Perkins I was certainly hoping to have
another 10 years. Last season I began to lose the top couple hundred
RPM if I would go full throttle. Then after not being on the boat
for five months it wouldn’t start this January. I had researched the
RPM loss last year and came across Indications and exhaust manifold
blockage May be the culprit. I scheduled with auxiliary engine
services to determine what was wrong when Harold determine the
compression was below Perkins recommended minimum pressure. I don’t
have a diagnosis as to the loss of compression I’ve always
maintained the oil and filter on schedule. Perhaps the increased
back pressure cause excess wear.

need to repower. What gave out? I spent yesterday at the Seattle
boat show and one of the vendors I talked with was Beta marine. They
suggested their Beta 30 and said it would cost about $10,000 plus
$800 for the engine mounts sized to fit the C320. These are rough
numbers since I didn’t get too serious with the quote. I think I can
nurse my for a few more years, but I’ve been battling a chronic
overheating problem.

happy with it. Better fuel consumption and plenty of power. Big
feature they will build the engine with mounts to match original
mounts. There was a cost but I figured it was less than rebuilding
the engine mounts.
