Thanks Chris. Since I'm completely clueless about this, does the depth read while on the hard?

An intermittent fault is most likely a connection issue. Check the
connection behind the instrument, then look for a terminal board down in
the locker or a junction near the instrument where a P.O.may have made a
splice. Other possibilities are a wire chafe if any part of the run from
the pod to where the instrument wire goes into the base of the Edson wheel
in the aft cabin runs outside a loom and across a sharp edged surface. In
either case any movement of the wire at the location of the fault will
produce an intermittent reading.

If you are getting an intermittent reading while the vessel is not in
motion and without the engine running, I would send the instrument head to
Raymarine to be checked.

My depth sounder was intermittently displaying depth this fall when I

sailed up to CT to store my boat for the winter.

I have the Raymarine ST6000 instrumentation. I guess I really don’t know

what questions to ask other than what questions do

I need to ask? How can this be checked out on the hard?
