Thanks everyone for all the input..I'll try those procedures in the morning. Fingers crossed...  Any suggestions on best place to buy a new unit if that turns out to be the issue. Thanks Michael

If all is working normally just go to the top of the sending unit and short the sensing wire/post to ground. (use a short piece of wire if needed).  If everything is working the fuel gauge should peg full when you short the sensing wire. If it pegs full then the gauge and the wire is good up to the sending unit.  This probably means the sending unit is bad.  If it does not peg at the top of the sending unit, then there is something wrong from the wire to the gauge.  Then go the back of the gauge itself and short the sense wire to ground.  If it pegs there then there is a wiring problem between the gauge and the sending unit. If  it does NOT peg at the back of the gauge then the gauge is faulty.
Others may have more/correcting information but this has worked for me.
If your gauge shows fuller than the tank really is (Never goes to empty)  then I would disconnect the sending unit wire and do the gauge and wire test above.  It that all works (Short shows full and open shows empty) then the issue has to be the sending unit (I would think).  Maybe it is sticking...
Good luck.  Anybody have correcting information, I am open.

 Subject: [C320-list] Fuel gauge

Can anyone give me information on a fuel gauge problem I'm having. My 95 model original fuel tank and sending unit is registering full even though it's half empty. I even ran out of fuel because I did not have an accurate gauge. Not sure if I should just go ahead and purchase a new sending unit or if there's some troubleshooting I should do first. I did check the connections on the unit and at the gauge and they are all clean. Thanks Michael 169 Nauti Clew
