[C320-list] Seacock problem-need advice

Regarding replacement models, I believe the one I ordered last year can
   be found at this website:
   [1]https://www.fisheriessupply.com/forespar-marelon-full-flow-seacock-f
   lush-thru-hull-x-ball-valve-x-hose-barb-oem. It comes in different
sizes and you should probably measure the one you are replacing. I was
replacing the one for the head sink drain, and the 3/4 inch was the
right size for that in my 1999 boat. The size refers to the hose barb
size if I'm remembering correctly. The engine raw water intake may be
larger. This item includes the thruhull and the seacock in one package.
They also make a "mushroom" thruhull version that you can find on the
same web site. The link is for the flush thruhull.

Just remove the 4 screws inside and you'll see it's a modular assembly. you are
down to the thruhull itself then. The clamping threaded nut/ring gets unscrewe
d and the thruhull can be pushed down and out.

Jeff,

The boat is on land so access is not an issue. I have a flush-mounted through hu
ll beneath the seacock. The flush mount has a key way. Is a special key needed t
o remove disassemble to seacock?

To remove the seacock (inside the boat) does it just screw off, or do you need t
o remove the four screws first? Does the through-hull screw tightly to the seaco
ck and that is what holds it together? I don't have any other through bolts.

If I need to replace the whole seacock/through-hull and the through hull is flus
h mounted, do you know what current model made by Forespar will fit? Thanks.

Dave

Hi Dave,

I've had them all apart before. You just can't do anything to them in the water
really, so if you're on land you're in luck.

So, there are 4 machine screws on the top which holds 3 sections together (top t
o bottom):
1. The tailpiece where the hose connect
-- rubber gasket
3. The valve section
-- rubber gasket
5. Thru hull section.

The thru hull section has a large threaded ring around the base that clamps the
thru hull to the hull.
On the outside, there may be 3 or 4 screws around the outside of the flange that
need to be removed if you're going to replace the whole unit. You'll probably
want to just do that if you have to get as far as taking the existing one out so
that you can replace the base block.

If you're out of the water you can do the job pretty quickly. Be sure to use so
mething like 4200 (or whatever Forespar recommends) around the ring when you put
the new thru hull back in.

If I were going to replace my raw water intake thru hull, I would certainly inv
estigate stepping up one whole size of valve. The next size up has a substantia
lly stronger handle, and slightly larger intake hose. The stock smaller valves
don't have very strong handles. I've broken one before and they can cause a big
 leak.

Forespar website and their tech support department is pretty good and helpful.

Good luck.

I found a deteriorating wooden backer block on the raw water intake seacock on m
y 1995 vintage 320, hull 174. The backer block is damp and has been wet for awhi
le. It is made by Forespar. Does anyone have a schematic for how they are put to
gether? What is the best procedure for removing, examing, repairing, replacing t
he seacock? Any ideas?

Dave
