I think the more likely culprit will be the connection to the motor. Catlina did not put a ‘drip loop’ on the cable to ensure any water alwyas runs away from the connection so it is a known corrosion point.

On my own windlass it was the carbon brushes in the motor that had swollen and jammed them so once they wore down the motor simply stopped.
