[C320-list] Portlight Leak

I have Lewmar Portlights on my circa 1999 C320.  Does anyone know what the function is of the small hole at the back of the latch cavity in these pictures?  I have a persistent leaks during heavy rains through a couple of port lights.  I only get water intrusion into the Latch Cavity.  I changed the O-ring seals on all the Latches but still getting leaks.  I just notice that H2O was coming out of this hole.
Thoughts?
