[C320-list] Throttle and shifter cables

Our throttle cable, when we bought the boat was so stiff that it made it dangerous to use precisely at low speeds when docking.  So I took off the compass and accessed a tightening device and loosened it.  Now we have to hold at speeds above 2000 rpm with a velcro strap.  But this is preferred to tight at low speed.Ken on Georgian Bay with Northern Dream#765 2000Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

If I let go of the throttle, it will always drop back to idle. Any suggestions? Our original surveyor thought that I could simply add a clamp somewhere along the cable's run that would add resistance to the movement.SteveSea Monkey #754> On August 2, 2019 at 10:26 AM Gene Gammon <captaingene at msn.com mailto:captaingene at msn.com > wrote:> > >     I bought the shut down cable on Ebay that shows it at 12'.>     Yanmar 129470-67550 Cable Engine Stop Long 12 Ft - 4 meters Genuine OEM<http://www.ebay.com/itm/222446004572>>     Item price $38.99> >     Maybe the shift cables will be a couple feet longer.>     Try eBay or Edson or Catalina Direct.> > >     Gene Gammon, Capt.> >     #$351> >     ________________________________>     From: C320-list <c320-list-bounces at lists.catalina320.com mailto:c320-list-bounces at lists.catalina320.com > on behalf of John morrison <sail-ability at sympatico.ca mailto:sail-ability at sympatico.ca >>     Sent: Friday, August 2, 2019 10:03 AM>     To: C320-List at Catalina320.com mailto:C320-List at Catalina320.com <C320-List at Catalina320.com mailto:C320-List at Catalina320.com >>     Subject: Re: [C320-list] Throttle and shifter cables> >     I had mine replaced when I bought the boat in 2010, the yard in Connecticut did it, and the seller paid for it. I think he was ripped off as the yard chose the most expensive procedure to do the replacement. The way to do it is to dismount the binnacle and slip the cables up to their control levers.(You’ll need to remove the compass). That way it is easy to get at the cable grabber halfway up the binnacle. The yard did not dismount the binnacle and they took hours to get at the cable grabber which keeps the cables from interfering with the steering. That said I have no idea of the cable part number, but I’ll bet the folks at Catalina in FL will have this info.>     JohnM>     1999#574> >         > > On Aug 2, 2019, at 9:45 AM, Jack Brennan <jackbrennan at bellsouth.net mailto:jackbrennan at bellsouth.net > wrote:> > > >     > >         > > Hello all:> > > >     > >         > > I want to replace my shifter and throttle cables, which I believe are original and don’t move easily. But my local Yanmar dealer has gone dumb on me and can’t provide the right replacement cables. The manual also doesn’t appear to say what they are.> > > >     > >         > > Does anyone know the length and type of these cables? I’m guessing the shifter is 12 feet and the throttle is 14.
